We are a community of:

  • Adults with aphasia and related acquired communication disabilities and their families
  • Trained and dedicated volunteers
  • Communicative Disorders Assistants
  • Speech Language Pathologists and Social Workers

  • Offers services and mutual aid groups for people living with aphasia and other communication disabilities caused by stroke, brain injury, or brain illness.
  • Is designed to help clients more fully participate in community life.
  • Encourages the support and involvement of local citizens and professionals.
  • Promotes aphasia awareness.
  • Advocates for communicative access, education and research
  • Gives a voice to clients in the global aphasia community.








History

The York-Durham Aphasia Centre was established in Stouffville, Ontario in 1989 with a grant from Health and Welfare Canada. 

With funding from Ontario Ministry of Health (currently Central LHIN) we expanded our programs and services.

We now serve:

  • York and Simcoe regions
  • Durham region
  • Peterborough area
  • The GTA

In 2010, York-Durham Aphasia Centre merged with March of Dimes Canada and has now become the Aphasia and Communication Disabilities Program.
