The Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons, U.S. is an affiliate of March of Dimes Canada and was incorporated in 2001, in the State of Florida, to support the mission of creating a society inclusive of people with physical disabilities. (EIN# 52-2306477)
In 1949, desperate to find a cure and protect their children from polio, mothers across Canada joined their counterparts in the United States in a North America-wide fundraising effort, going door-to-door to collect dimes for research into a polio vaccine. In 1955, the polio vaccine created by Dr. Jonas Salk proved effective in limited test trials in Canada. This 1955 Salk vaccine field trial was unprecedented in medical history and demonstrated the value of the vaccine to fight paralytic polio, but also involved a strong Canadian connection that was crucial to the future control of the polio virus around the world.
With the threat of polio greatly diminished, March of Dimes in Canada began funding centres for polio survivors. Today, we are dedicated to helping children and adults with all types of disabilities to lead more independent lives.
The Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons, (RFDP) U.S was created to allow us to offer our post-polio support services in the United States and to fundraise in the U.S..
Please support the Rehabilitation Foundation for Disabled Persons, U.S. by donating now. Your gift can make a great difference in the lives of people with disabilities.
In 2011, we provided a Conductor to deliver a week long program of Conductive Education to an organization established by parents of children with disabilities in the Detroit area. Services were purchased under contract and a relationship established with this parent-run organization. This could lead to further collaboration for the purpose of establishing CE services to serve the Detroit/Windsor communities.
In 2012, RFDP, US participated in Canada Fest 2012 in Palm Springs, California celebrating Canada and Canadian contributions to Southern California.
In 2013, RFDP, US was also the beneficiary of the Canada California Business Council Celebrity Golf Classic held in Palm Desert, California. This annual fundraiser took place in Palm Desert on March 3, 2013. A second Canada California Business Council Celebrity Championship Golf Series event is scheduled for December 2, 2013, in Entrada, California.
