March of Dimes Canada invites everyone to Step Up for Stroke
Annual fundraiser highlights the more than 89,000 strokes that happen in Canada every year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: More than
89,000 strokes happen in Canada every year. That’s
one stroke every six minutes. Today,
hundreds of thousands of people across the country need help navigating life after stroke.
March of Dimes Canada (MODC) is inviting Canadians to participate in its annual Step Up for Stroke fundraiser, which runs through the month of June.
Anyone anywhere can get involved. Just
register online, choose an activity, and set a goal that includes 89 to acknowledge the 89,000 strokes that happen in Canada every year — walk around the block 89 times, learn 89 new words, bake 89 cookies. Anything goes! Then set a financial goal and invite friends and family to donate.
“Stroke can be a life-altering event, and no one should face it alone,” says Christina Sperling, MODC’s National Director, Community Programs and After Stroke. “That’s where After Stroke comes in. We connect stroke survivors and caregivers with the support they need to thrive — peer support, resources, educational opportunities, and innovative programming.”
This year’s goal is to raise
$160,000 for After Stroke.
“The demand for this kind of support is growing,” says Sperling. “That’s why we’ve set such an ambitious goal, and why we need everyone to step up and help us get there.”
