Local volunteers canvassing for stroke survivors and caregivers

For immediate release: Stroke touches thousands of Canadians each year. It touches their families, friends, colleagues, and health care providers, too – nobody is unaffected. Survivors are also living longer, which raises the question: what do you do after a stroke?
Fortunately, March of Dimes Canada is there to help people find answers.
After Stroke brings together programs, services, resources, and tools that survivors and caregivers can use to navigate life after stroke.
“It fills a real need,” says legendary wrestler Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart. “As a stroke survivor, I can tell you that it’s scary. You don’t know where to turn after you’re discharged from hospital. You don’t know what’s going to happen. That’s where After Stroke comes in.”
After Stroke is designed to be useful for survivors, caregivers, and health care professionals. It includes peer support groups, a hospital visitation program, information on how to modify your home, and much more.
“People need that support when they go home, and when they get back out into their communities again,” Hart continues. “The need is there, and it’s growing.”
That’s why March of Dimes Canada’s annual
Community Canvass Campaign is raising funds for After Stroke this year. Volunteers are going door-to-door in communities across Ontario collecting donations that will go directly to supporting stroke survivors and caregivers.
‘Our goal is to raise $300,000 this year,” Hart adds.
