March of Dimes Canada (MODC) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the LCBO that will help young people with disabilities in Ontario find meaningful work and attain financial security.
A
$100,000 gift from the LCBO will expand and enhance access to MODC’s innovative
Paving the Path to Work program, which supports young people with disabilities considering the world of work through goal-setting sessions, mentorships, interview prep, skills building, and more.
“Barriers related to disability and social anxiety have felt overwhelming,” said Avodele Caesar, a young woman from Hamilton, Ontario, who recently participated in Paving the Path to Work.
After completing the program, Caesar said she felt empowered and more confident in her ability to connect with people and potential employers. She was also hired part time at a local café, working at the register and helping prepare recipes.
“This change is significant to me because it's given me a sense of purpose.” Caesar said.
Paving the Path to Work supports more than 500 young people with disabilities in Ontario each year through both in-person and virtual sessions. This generous donation from the LCBO will allow MODC to increase the program’s reach by an additional 50 people during the upcoming year.
“We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with the LCBO to bring one of our flagship employment programs to more young people with disabilities in Ontario,” said Len Baker, MODC President and CEO. “Today, we’re celebrating what’s possible when people come together to support their communities and province.”
The LCBO, meanwhile, said it’s proud to support people with disabilities across Ontario, driving social change, championing accessibility, and eliminating barriers to employment.
