Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers

To meet the growing demand for the services that our frontline workers provide for seniors and people with disabilities, March of Dimes Canada, in partnership with
IBT College, is offering a unique program that will train you to be a home support worker with our team.
Together, we’re offering a six-week training program that includes four weeks of paid, online training and two weeks of paid, hands-on learning at an MODC location. If you live in Durham, Toronto, Niagara, St. Catherines, Richmond Hill or Sarnia, and have access to a vehicle, you’re invited to apply. When you graduate, you’ll be guaranteed a position as a home support worker in your community.

Guaranteed employment with March of Dimes Canada, where you’ll earn a competitive salary and receive a generous benefits package, which includes a pension
- You’ll be immediately hired by MODC at the start of the Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers, with work commencing upon completion of training
Admission requirements
To qualify and register for this program, please note that you must meet the following requirements:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check conducted by the police
- Have reliable transportation to get to and from work, such as driving to various clients' homes in the community
- Be eligible to work in Canada
- Be a resident of Durham, Toronto, Niagara, St. Catherines, Richmond Hill or Sarnia
- Have a computer and basic computer skills (for example, the ability to use video-conferencing applications)
- Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by receiving all required doses of a vaccine that is approved by Health Canada at least 14 days before the program begins
- Be able to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR training and accreditation within the first three months of employment
- Be able to meet the physical demands of the job
Developing the skills you need
When you graduate from the Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers, you’ll be able to:
- Improve clients’ independence and quality of life as a member of one of MODC’s dynamic care teams
- Provide person-centred care that is sensitive to the values, beliefs, and needs of each client
- Assist individuals with daily living routines and household management
- Maintain helping relationships with individuals and families
- Identify issues using basic assessment strategies, and report findings
- Work within all the applicable legislation and MODC’s policies and guidelines

Important dates and details
Please note that:
- The deadline to apply for this program is November 17, 2023
- The Rapid Training Program for Home Support Workers starts on
Monday, November 20, 2023
- Online classes run from 9 am to 1 pm, from Monday to Friday. Participants also need to complete one hour of independent study each day
- Spaces are limited — please apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment
- Applicants must live in Durham, Toronto, Niagara, St. Catherines, Richmond Hill or Sarnia
