Rock for Dimes

12th annual Rock for Dimes Calgary grosses $30,000 for March of Dimes Canada!

For Immediate ReleaseRock for Dimes Calgary is starting its second decade off with a bang!

Once again, three local bands – The Contraband, F.O.G, and The Advo-cats -came through with some great performances for a full house and panel of celebrity judges.

Global Calgary’s Paul Dunphy returned as MC, and the difficult task of choosing this year’s winner fell to Dan Owen (OCL Recording Studios), David Farmer (MODC Calgary committee member and RFD veteran), Matty McKay (CCMA winner, producer, and songwriter), and Russell Broom (Juno award-winning producer, guitarist, composer, songwriter, and engineer).

It’s always a close competition, and this year was no different, but The Contraband won the Judge’s Favourite award for the second time in a row. Top fundraising honours went to The Advo-Cats

Altogether, the event grossed $30,000, which will benefit MODC programs for children and adults with disabilities. 88% of the money stays in Alberta, and goes toward the Conductive Education and Learning Independence for Future Empowerment programs.

‘We want to thank Calgary for supporting us,’ said Mary Lynne Stewart, National Director of Fund Development and Communications for March of Dimes Canada. ‘We’ve been coming here for over a decade, and the city is still so generous. It makes a big difference to the people we serve.’

‘Thanks as well to the bands, judges, volunteers, and organizations who help us put on such a great event,’ Stewart continued. ‘We couldn’t do it without you.’
