Rock for Dimes

Vancouver raises $30,000 for After Stroke!

Annual battle of the bands raises $30,000 for After Stroke.

For Immediate Release – Vancouver’s legendary Commodore Ballroom hosted Rock for Dimes Vancouver for the second year in a row, and it was quite an evening.

Six local bands  – Luke Honeythunder Blues & Soul Explosioin, Future Friendly Five, Fresh Water Sharks, Lunchbox Rembrandts, Waterfront Station, and The Breaks The Beat – entertained  music fans and a panel of celebrity judges to support local stroke survivors and caregivers.

Altogether, the event raised $30,000 for MODC’s After Stroke program.

‘It always so much fun to be in Vancouver,’ says Mary Lynne Stewart, National Director of Fund Development and Communications for MODC. ‘And it’s such a generous city. People are always ready to help each other any way they can.’

MODC will also be providing eight deserving recipients with a customized tablet through its Assistive Mobile Technology Initiative (AMTI). Each tablet will be loaded with apps chosen to address the recipients’ specific needs and to help them live more independently.

‘Technology is so much more than convenient or entertaining,’ Stewart added. ‘It’s a tool that allows people to be engaged, active members of their communities.’

Our very generous sponsors are: Long&McQuade, Candela, 96.9 Jack FM, Global BC, TEMEC, Singleton Reynolds, the Stroke Recovery Association of BC, Telus, The Province, The Vancouver Sun, The Narrative Lens, and The Commodore Ballroom.
