Canadians are seeing a steady increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations week-over-week and experts continue to warn of a tough winter ahead with respiratory infections such as COVID-19, flu and RSV on the rise. As a result, and out of an abundance of caution, March of Dimes Canada has made the difficult decision to postpone the annual OpportuniTea featuring Kate Linder and Friends from the cast of “The Young and the Restless” to late Spring, 2023.
MODC had hoped to safely host the Tea on December 11, but the current situation makes that very challenging. The health and safety of everyone in attendance, including the audience and our special guests from the cast, is of paramount importance.
Kate is deeply disappointed that she will not get to see her committed fans this year, but she understands the need for caution.
“My castmates and I were so looking forward to seeing everyone live and in-person again next month but we understand the need for caution so that everyone stays healthy and happy and is able to enjoy a wonderful holiday season,” said Kate Linder, “We look forward to seeing you in late April or early May.”
While other events are going ahead this winter, the Tea’s unique nature – the interaction between the cast and the attendees in particular – requires greater caution. Moving the event to spring – after flu season, March Break, and when COVID cases are expected to decline – will be safer for everyone involved and ensure attendees can enjoy the experience of connecting with their favourite faces from Genoa City.
Guests who have already purchased their tickets will be contacted regarding the postponement and offered the choice of a full refund, or a transfer to the new date.
A new date will be announced once arrangements have been confirmed with Kate and the cast. Additional health and safety precautions will also be observed on the new date.
Kate Linder has been an ambassador for March of Dimes Canada since 2012 and proceeds from OpportuniTea support March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education program.
