March of Dimes Canada and Schitt’s Creek star honour people building a barrier-free future

Emmy Award-winning actress Annie Murphy will be the special guest at March of Dimes Canada’s (MODC) first annual Changemakers Supper Club happening at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle on Tuesday, October 18.

This inclusive fundraising event celebrates Changemakers – allies, advocates, and champions of change who are building an inclusive, accessible future for people with disabilities. Five individuals or organizations will be receiving an MODC Changemaker Award in recognition of their efforts.

“All aspects of life should be barrier-free,” says Len Baker, President and CEO of March of Dimes Canada. “That’s going to require a collective effort, and it starts with Changemakers like the ones we’re recognizing at this event.”

Guests will be treated to delicious cocktails, mouth-watering food, and a chance to hear about the inspiring work of our Changemakers. The evening also includes a fireside chat with Murphy, a dedicated philanthropist, CARE Canada ambassador, and strong supporter of Toronto-based volunteer organizations like the Encampment Support Network.

“Having Annie join us is a real thrill because she’s a Changemaker herself and understands the power of taking action, individually and collectively, to champion equity and empower ability.,” adds Baker.

Silent and live auctions will raise money for MODC’s programs, which fall into four focus areas: best start for children, youth, and families; independence at home and in the community; active, healthy, connected lives; and financial security.

“People with disabilities have the right to live and thrive in their communities on their terms,” Baker says. “That’s our mission, and we’re proud to celebrate the individuals, organizations, and communities who share it.”

“Together, we can create a barrier-free society.,” he adds.

Tickets to MODC’s first annual Changemakers Supper Club, and details about sponsoring the event, are available at marchofdimes.ca/changemakers.

The Changemakers Supper Club (formerly the Ability & Beyond Dinner) has raised more than $3.2 million for MODC since its inaugural event in 1999. Every Changemakers Supper Club guest is helping to make our communities more inclusive for everyone by empowering people living with disabilities across Canada.
