March of Dimes Canada honoured with international award for innovation
For Immediate Release: March of Dimes Canada is thrilled to announce that our Home and Vehicle Modification Program (HVMP) has received a Zero Project award for innovative practices in accessibility.
HVMP was chosen for its work in making the built environment more accessible, and facilitating independence and community engagement. The Ontario-based program helps to modify the home or vehicle of a person living with a disability so that it safely accommodates their condition.
“The program changes lives by enabling people to live independently in their communities,” says Lonnie McInnis, Manager of the Home and Vehicle Modification Program. “We provide increased mobility, independence and practical support to individuals and families every day."
An initiative of the Essl Foundation, these international awards recognize practices and policies that help improve the lives of people with disabilities. The goal is to highlight the innovative and effective solutions to the challenges faced by people with disabilities and, ultimately, create a world without barriers.
Over 4000 disability experts from more than 170 countries lend their expertise to the awards process.
“We’re honoured to be recognized by the international community like this,” McInnis continues. “It’s wonderful to see so many people and organizations coming together to make the world a more inclusive, accessible place.”
