1. How old were you when you contracted polio?
15 going on 16 years old.
2. Was it paralytic polio? Did you have any permanent effects?
Happened in Saskatoon they had hot packs and had supreme care. Around the middle of her body was where she had the paralysis. This is where it remains today. She had to have a cesarean because all of her birth muscles are paralyzed. She slipped a disk because of the paralysis in her stomach and had to have a hip operation and back operation. She had to take cortisone which made her bones thinner and now that she takes calcium pills it hurts her throat which is bad for her singing, which she teaches.
3. When were you diagnosed with post-polio syndrome?
Yes has a friend who lost her right arm to Polio had Post Polio Syndrome. She has heard about it from her.
4. What do you want people to know about post-polio syndrome?
Prefers natural methods of healing. Has had bad experiences in the past and would rather do things more naturally. She finds that swimming is great and helps a lot.
