1. How old were you when you contracted polio?
About two and a half or three.
2. Was it paralytic polio? Did you have any permanent effects?
Yes, was paralyzed from the waist down. Laziness in her legs has occurred in the last couple of years.
3. When were you diagnosed with post-polio syndrome?
No, the Doctors that she has been seeing are not really informed on it. She has also noticed that she started developing allergies and now she has respiratory problems.
4. What do you want people to know about post-polio syndrome?
She can remember learning how to walk with the help of a dog. Her cousin gave her a dog that would pull her around the yard when she did not have mobility. She would pull herself up by his fur. She remembers them doing heat and a lot of massaging. She never had any troubles swallowing. Not sure how long she was paralyzed. May have been 6 months or may have been a year.
She was roomed with women in their twenties.
