Vancouver Island


On South Vancouver Island, the Vancouver Island Health Authority funds community outreach services and a day program supporting adults living with brain injury provided by March of Dimes Canada. Individuals who aren’t eligible for these funded services may be able to access community outreach, rehabilitation or day program services through other fee for service opportunities. Please contact our team for more details.  

Community Outreach Services

These may include short term community supports that work with an individual to address activities of daily living (ADL), instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and behavioural support needs by implementing compensatory strategies in a community setting. The services may also include longer term community supports that provide task-specific, sustained intervention in the community to help an individual maintain their current stability. 

Adult Day Program 

This program is designed to improve quality of life for adults living with the effects of an acquired brain injury. We provide structured activities that promote the development of social, cognitive, physical and emotional skills to increase independence and support community integration.  

Applying for Service 

To be eligible for the funded program, applications must be completed through Island Health.

General Eligibility Criteria for Island Health Authority Brain Injury Programs


Clients must: 
  1. Be 19 years of age and older  
  2. Have a diagnosis or medical evidence of an acquired brain injury after birth (e.g. CT scan, MRI report, neurological or physiatrist's report)   
  3. Live within the boundaries of Island Health and meet residency requirements as defined by Community Health Services 
  4. Have limited funding or access to services from other sources such as: ICBC, WorkSafe, Crime Victims Assistance Program, Veteran's Affairs, etc.

North Okanagan (Salmon Arm/Sicamous)


In the North Okanagan (Salmon Arm/Sicamous), the Interior Health Authority funds community outreach services for adults living with brain injury provided by March of Dimes Canada. Individuals who aren’t eligible for these funded services may be able to access community outreach, rehabilitation or day program services through other fee for service opportunities. Please contact our team for more details.  

Interior Health Acquired Brain Injury Services help adults living in the community who are 19 to 64 years old and have a documented brain injury. Acquired Brain Injury services also help families, caregivers, and staff in supporting individuals with brain injury and in understanding and managing the changes to their family that may occur after brain injury.  Services may not be available in your community. Contact your local Home and Community Care office. With funding partnerships, March of Dimes Canada has the ability and experience to develop and offer the following services: 

Congregate Living involves sharing living space with up to two roommates. Individuals get their own bedroom and bathroom but share the living and dining space and the kitchen. 

Integrated Apartment Models are designated apartment buildings with 24-hour onsite access to planned, scheduled and unscheduled service. Individuals live in their own apartment and receive support as scheduled.

Outreach Services include planned service delivery in an individual’s own home.
